Microsoft's Vision for Healthcare

A cool video I found at Chris Paton's Health Informatics Blog from Microsoft.  This futuristic view of healthcare from the consumer and provider perspectives shows  a  variety of  thin hand-helds,  screen -walls which are touch screens and  countertop smart  screens which provide a range of health care solutions.
How far are we from this? Most of the technology exists today - the main barriers are cost, interoperability and the vision to communicate at these levels between patient and provider.

Seems Microsoft is missing the boat again, I'm sorry to say. The biggest healthcare technology gathering this year was ALL ABOUT GOOGLE and the idea of country-wide, then world-wide EHRs, EMRs, PHRs and they got many vendors and covered entities to get onboard already. Microsoft has had the infrastructure, I would think, to have started to build this when President Bush first called for a national EHR.
It's so painfully obvious and Google is seen as THE internet provider to handle this endeavor by one of healthcare technologies leading magaines. At first they will offer an API and sites will need to do programming, but as commonalities are found the process will become streamlined. I personally think Microsoft could be doing this but they seem to be getting a bad reputation among the computing professionals these days. I don't understand why Mr. Ballmer doesn't believe building customer trust and giving the customer the best possible product or quick fixes when it's not, should be Microsoft's first priority. I am a professional and I am seeing many windows professionals moving away from Windows at an alarming rate. Why in the world is Microsoft not fielding it's own series of Vista commercials to counter Apple's ad blitz? We Microsoft professionals are bewildered as we keep thinking this HAS to be seen by MS, they have to know that customer relations is at an all time low, but nothing ever changes. For the sake of trying to root out some piracy, Mr. Ballmer has lost a substantial number of devoted Microsoft partners, and employees it seems because people don't want to things like WGA. It is hard to keep Windows copies down to legal copies, i understand, but Microsoft has lost it's mojo and people are growing weary of hoping someting will turn around somehow, someway, MS will remember we loyal customers and become customer centric, but there is absolutely no signs of it. I recently watched a video where Mr. Ballmer was talking to business students and his best advice he could give them was to MILK every product for what it's worth. THAt is going to sink Microsoft and I say this with concern. I love the MS environment but am worried about going down with the ship if things don't turn around.
